Christmas Cakes & Yule Logs – Pre-Order Now!

Our beautiful 2020 Christmas cakes are now available to order online for home delivery or collection from 24th November to 21st December.

Christmas might be a little different this year. Family gatherings might be on a smaller scale, but that means there’s all the more reason to make Christmas extra special for those you can share it with.

We’ll all be doing everything we can to stay safe as we prepare for Christmas, including ordering Christmas food –  and Christmas cake – online.  When you’re wondering about the best Christmas cakes to buy, check out our deliciously different Christmas Yule Logs from the master pâtissiers at PAUL. Each of these Christmas cakes would be equally at home as a festive dessert or for afternoon tea.

In France we call these cakes Bûches de Noël, and they are eaten typically at the big dinner on Christmas Eve called Le Réveillon. Although increasingly they are enjoyed throughout the Christmas holiday season. The cakes come in many flavours and varieties and are generally beautifully decorated centerpieces.

Our Christmas Yule Log collection this year offers two chocolate cakes and two fruit-based cakes, so you can find something to please everyone.  Pre-ordering is open now for home delivery (or collection from your nearest PAUL bakery) from 24th November right up to 21st December. Remember that if you’re ordering for delivery on our final delivery day of 21st December, you will need to place that order no later than midday on 20th December.  But of course you can place your orders right away – here are the details of this year’s collection:

Christmas cake

Chocolate Praline Yule Log

For a really elegant grand finale to a Christmas meal, this impressive centrepiece is hard to beat.  It’s made with a delectable combination of bavaroise cream made with 70% dark chocolate, crispy praline pieces, cocoa genoise and almond dacquoise bisuit.  Finished with a mirror chocolate glaze, it is decorated with dark chocolate curls and decorative dark chocolate end plaques.  Available in both 4 portion and 8 portion sizes.

Christmas cakes

Coconut and Passion Fruit Yule Log

If you’re looking for something a bit lighter, try this pretty, refreshing cake featuring almond dacquoise biscuit topped with a creamy coconut mousse surrounding a secret heart of exotic fruit compote made with passion fruit, mango and dragon fruit.  It has a sunny yellow mirror gloss finish topped with colourful tropical physalis and starfruit, finished with white chocolate end pieces featuring our Christmas artwork.  Available in both 4 portion and 8 portion sizes.

Christmas Cake

Red Fruits Yule Log

What a show-stopper this is. A glossy festive read, the Red Fruits Yule Log is also low in sugar, whilst the tartness of the blackcurrants perfectly complements the sweetness of the raspberries.  Each slice reveals almond daquoise, blackcurrant mousse and whole blackcurrants, surrounded by raspberry mousse.  It’s topped with fresh strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries and finished with white chocolate end pieces decorated with our Christmas artwork.  So much Christmas food is rather rich, whilst this looks and feels suitably celebratory without being heavy to eat.  Available in both 4 portion and 8 portion sizes.

Cut into our mystery cake to reveal layers of ground almond biscuit, chocolate & almond sponge, white nougat and praline cream. Rich, decadent and absolutely delicious, this limited edition Christmas treat serves up to 8.

Christmas Forest Yule Log Cake

A Yule Log with a difference! This cake has been cleverly constructed and decorated to look like a log cut from a larger tree. Cut into it and you can see the rings made from chocolate Jaconde sponge and chocolate buttercream. The sides of the cake are coated with chocolate buttercream and chocolate shavings. The top is garnished with forest greenery, pine cones and cheery red ribbon. Serves up to 8.

We look forward to helping you spoil the people you love this year with our Yule Logs. Just one of the PAUL comforts to enjoy together this Christmas.

Potato Fritters Home Recipe – The Food Medic

POTATO FRITTERS WITH HALLOUMI

Try this great recipe that’s perfect for a light lunch or weekend brunch, or to pop into a lunchbox on working days

Today we’re bringing you some more tasty and nutritious meal inspiration from The Food Medic.  Who doesn’t love a crispy fritter?  Here grilled halloumi and an avocado mash are the perfect accompaniments.

Ingredients – serves 4

1 courgette, grated

500g white potato (approx. 2 medium potatoes), peeled and grated

3 garlic cloves, crushed

1 white onion, diced

3 tbsp gram/chickpea flour

¾ tsp salt

2 tsp paprika

Pinch of pepper

1 large pack halloumi, sliced

2 avocados

1 lime

Chilli flakes (optional)

1 bag rocket leaves

16 cherry tomatoes, sliced into quarters

Method

Begin by draining the water out of the grated courgette and potato.  You can do this by placing them in a clean tea towel and wringing the liquid out.  Empty the veg into a bowl once they’re drained.

Add the crushed garlic, diced onion, gram flour, salt, paprika and pepper to the bowl and combine.

In a large saucepan over a medium heat, add a large glug of olive oil.  Split your mixture in to 8 fritters, then fry them in a couple of batches.  Fry them in the pan for around 3 minutes on each side until crispy and cooked through.

Meanwhile grill the halloumi, and in a bowl mash the avocados and squeeze the juice of the lime over it to keep it fresh.  Stir through some chilli flakes.

Line your serving dish (or lunch boxes) with rocket and tomatoes, then pile on the fritters and halloumi topped with dollops of the avocado smash.  If filling a lunch box, allow two fritters per person.

Enjoy!
